YOGA DIRECTION WRITING ABOUT

About the Yoga

Adam Martin teaches a fun Hatha style yoga focused on creating a safe space for growth and the exploration of the self. He has been practicing since 2014 and teaching since 2021. He received his 200 hour training certificate from the Chicago School of Yoga where he trained under David Duerkop and Kathryn Gongaware. His classes bring his background in spirituality together with yoga to build a practice centered on peace, ease of movement, and knowledge of the body.

Before beginning, Adam takes time to connect with each new student in conversation about their goals, needs, and intentions for their practice. This helps ensure the practice is tailored to what matters most to them, and allows both teacher and student to discover if they are a good fit for working together in a spirit of mutual trust and openness.

About the Spiritual

Direction

Adam trained in spiritual direction at Loyola University Chicago, where he worked to weave together his grounding in Zen Buddhism with his new found Catholic faith. His formation was shaped by the contemplation of the Franciscans, the discernment-centered approach of Ignatian spirituality, and the compassion of the Jesuit care for the whole person.

A pivotal part of Adam’s journey was his time spent working with the unhoused community at the Catholic Worker in Chicago—an experience that continues to inform his spiritual practice. His approach to direction is down-to-earth, offering a space that honors the gritty, sacred realities of life. He focues on helping others attend to the movement of the Divine in all its forms in our lives.

First Steps

Adam begins each direction relationship with a simple, honest conversation. It’s a chance to get to know one another, explore what’s drawing the person to direction, and see if it feels like the right fit. Whether someone is navigating questions of faith, seeking a deeper connection with the Divine, or simply wanting to pay closer attention to their inner life. This first meeting will allow space to explore those questions.

Those who are interested should feel free to reach out using the contact form and Adam will reply promptly. Session costs work on a sliding scale.
